Paul Thiene collection [graphic]. ca. 1915-1930.

Photographs of completed projects and works in progress form the bulk of the collection and include many images of the Panama-California Exposition in San Diego. Many of the photographs were created by the company of Hiller and Mott. Also includes scrapbooks of clippings about landscape architecture, photographs of Thiene's drawings and presentation drawings of the Doheny estate in Beverly Hills.

Landscape architect Paul Thiene was born in Germany in 1880, and immigrated to the United States in 1903. He worked with Frederick Law Olmsted in Boston until 1910, then moved to San Diego to participate in the landscape design for the Panama-California Exposition with Frank Lloyd Wright. After working on the San Diego Exposition, Paul Thiene's office designed the landscapes of major estates in Southern California, including the Doheny "Greystone" estate in Beverly Hills.
